First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos led the groundbreaking for the new wing that is being built at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
The new structure is a 16-story building that will serve as a pediatric and adult specialty center to serve more patients who need specialized healthcare, according to Malacañang.
“Thrilled that the Philippine General Hospital is getting a shiny new 16-story wing!” Mrs. Marcos wrote on social media.
The facility will have a 450-bed capacity, pediatric emergency and operating rooms, intensive care units (ICU), and out-patient clinics.
The First Lady expressed optimism the project will be finished before the end of her husband President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term.
“Now let’s all pray that it’s completed before my husband’s term ends!” she said.
Support for the project poured in from followers of the First Lady who stressed the importance of healthcare.

“Kudos to FL Liza for empowering the health sector with compassion and vision,” another commented.
The construction of the new specialty center will cost P675.5 million and is expected to be completed by 2027.
