IMUS CITY — Public Works officials formally turned over a P2.4-billion flood-control facility to the Cavite provincial government Tuesday, boosting regional infrastructure aimed at mitigating severe river overflows.
The Imus Retarding Basin, located in Barangay Anabu 1-G, was handed over during a ceremony attended by Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency and local government officials.
The infrastructure project relies on two off-site retarding basins designed to capture and temporarily hold heavy surface runoff during intense rainfall.
By regulating peak flows, the system slows down water velocity and gradually releases runoff back into the Imus River system, protecting downstream communities from prolonged inundations.
Officials engineered the facility to safeguard residential areas, commercial establishments, roadways, and agricultural lands frequently threatened by heavy monsoon rains and tropical cyclones across Cavite and the surrounding Calabarzon region.
