Radio personality Nicole Hyala, one of the most recognizable voices on the FM dial, recently opened up about a personal battle she never imagined she’d face—thyroid cancer.
In a heartfelt revelation aired during her Love Radio program on June 23, 2025, Nicole, whose real name is Emmylou Gaite-Tiñana, shared the emotional journey she has been navigating since learning of her diagnosis. Known for her upbeat persona and signature humor on air, the beloved DJ allowed her audience a rare glimpse of her vulnerability, courage, and unwavering faith.
“At ang sakit at ang saklap sa katotohanan na ang sabi, ako daw po ay merong thyroid cancer,” she began, her voice quivering yet composed. “Una, anak. Sunod, asawa. Ngayon, ako na.”
Nicole recounted how she received the news just two weeks ago after undergoing a biopsy she initially dismissed with laughter. The results confirmed what no one hopes to hear: cancer.
“So I’m set for surgery in July,” she said, explaining the medical course of action. “Normally, dahil nga friendly siya, tatanggalin lang naman yung thyroid. So, full thyroidectomy ang kailangan. It solves the problem.”
Despite the gravity of the diagnosis, Nicole remained a beacon of light, leaning on her trademark wit to uplift both herself and her listeners.
“Ay, feeling ko ang balik sa akin ni Lord nito,” she joked, “‘Tinanggal lang kita ng thyroid, dadagdagan kita ng boobs.’”
The unexpected twist in her life comes after years of publicly sharing her experiences as a devoted wife and mother, often drawing strength from her family and faith. In her recent message, she didn’t ask for sympathy—only prayers.
“Kailangan natin ng dasal,” she added, reminding her listeners that while she remains strong, healing is a journey best traveled with faith and community support.
As she prepares for surgery next month, her message is clear: this is just another chapter, not the ending. And true to her spirit, she’s facing it head-on—with courage, with humor, and most importantly, with faith.
