Sun Life names Jonathan Moreno as president

Sun Life Philippines named Jonathan Juan "JJ" Moreno as its new president, boasting of his over 20-year business experience, including leading the company behind Beep cards.

"His proven track record of achieving results with integrity, combined with his transformational leadership, will be instrumental as we continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of our clients and advisors," said Sun Life Philippines Chief Executive Officer Benedict Sison.

Moreno previously served as president of AF Payments Inc., the operator of cashless transport fare cards called Beep. It has been used by over 14 million commuters on Point-to-Point buses, LRT, and MRT in Metro Manila.

Under Moreno's leadership, AF Payments Inc. partnered with Mastercard in November last year to enable visitors, residents, and workers to travel around Bonifacio Global City using an open-loop system.

"With the open-loop system, a commuter doesn't have to be a Beep cardholder so it's more inclusive and more convenient," he said.

"We're more than cards; we are a transit payment system and offer QR technology, acquiring, clearing, and settling services," Moreno added.

Moreno is also a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy which also helped him develop skills on team management and strategy planning.

"In a rapidly changing world, we are accelerating our transformation to be a future-ready and client-centric leader in the industry. The possibilities are endless, and Sun Life is ready to lead the way," he said.

Sun Life Philippines reported it emerged as the top life insurer in the country in terms of total premium income in the first quarter of the year, gaining P15.13 billion.
