One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), joined the Department of Education (DepEd) in the nationwide rollout of Brigada Eskwela from 9 to 13 June 2025, in thousands of public schools.
Brigada Eskwela brings together volunteers and stakeholders in a spirit of bayanihan to prepare public schools for the incoming academic year, ensuring that students return to a safe and conducive learning environment.
In Angono Elementary School, where the Schools Division of Rizal held its kickoff, OMF and Meralco employee-volunteers from the Angono Business Center and Rizal Sector conducted electrical safety assessments and tree pruning near power lines as part of the Foundation’s “Safe ang School Ko” initiative. They also donated cleaning supplies to support the school’s readiness efforts.
These safety and volunteer initiatives were also carried out in other public schools in Pasig City, Las Piñas City, Tondo and Sampaloc in Manila, Angono, Taytay, and Cainta in Rizal, as well as General Emilio Aguinaldo, Tagaytay City, and Indang in Cavite.
“Taking part in Brigada Eskwela is an affirmation of our shared aspirations with DepEd,” said OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao. “As Meralco employees, our values of bayanihan and malasakit actively build brighter futures, ensuring every learner can learn and thrive in a well-prepared and conducive environment.”
In addition to Brigada Eskwela, OMF and Meralco employees also launched their annual Balik Eskwela campaign. The initiative will distribute back-to-school kits containing reading and writing materials to kindergarten students in public schools, helping jumpstart their academic journey.
