At least 93 couples — many of whom had lived together for years but lacked the financial means to marry — received free weddings through a mass ceremony organized by the Manila city government on 14 June 2025.

Mayor Honey Lacuna served as a principal sponsor for all couples and of the total, 28 couples were married in a church ceremony at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Ermita, while 65 participated in a civil mass wedding officiated by the mayor at the Adamson Gymnasium.

The event, dubbed “Kasalang Bayan 2025: Manila June Bride,” was part of the lead-up to the city’s 454th founding anniversary, known as “Araw ng Maynila.”

According to Encar Ocampo, chief of the Manila Civil Registry Office, Mayor Lacuna’s office covered various wedding expenses, a practice consistent with previous years.

These provisions included marriage licenses, wedding cords and veils, flower bouquets, arrhae or wedding tokens and wedding rings.

Ocampo also said that at Lacuna’s direction, the mayor’s office handled the reception, venue, church marriage and wedding service. The wedding reception was held at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate.
