A 43-year-old construction worker was swiftly arrested Thursday morning after breaking into a parked vehicle in Barangay Plainview, Mandaluyong City.
The suspect — identified only as alias Lex, a resident of Barangay Mauway — was caught by Mandaluyong City police less than a minute after the crime was reported.
According to the initial investigation, the incident occurred at around 7:50 AM at the BDO parking lot along Boni Avenue. The victim had temporarily left the vehicle when the suspect smashed the passenger-side window using a piece of broken tile and took off with several belongings.
An eyewitness immediately alerted nearby SWAT officers from the Mandaluyong City Police Station, who were conducting routine patrols as part of the Eastern Police District’s intensified visibility campaign and 5-minute rapid response program.
The officers responded immediately, arrested the suspect, and recovered the stolen items, which included a leather jacket worth P6,000, a portable mini fan worth P500, a vehicle charger worth P1,500, and a hair dryer worth P3,000. The items are currently in the custody of the station’s Criminal Investigation Unit for documentation and further investigation.
The suspect remains detained at the Mandaluyong City Police Station and will face charges in accordance with the law.
