Manny Pacquiao conducted an impromptu clinic during his morning run at Griffith Park in Los Angeles on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
His students were a veritable who’s who in Philippine boxing: Mark Magsayo, Jerwin Ancajas and Eumir Marcial.
Pacquiao, who is ramping up his preparations for an ambitious world title quest on 19 July at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, was hands-on in his approach.
As onlookers and members of his staff gathered around him, Pacquiao taught the trio the right way to do push-ups, which he swore enhances punching power.
Magsayo, Marcial and Ancajas are attending Pacquiao’s training session since they are all seeing action in the undercard of the eight-division legend’s headlining World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title challenge of Mario Barrios.
Originally based in Las Vegas, Marcial and Ancajas were told to relocate so they could join Pacquiao. Magsayo didn’t have to pack his bags since he is based in Los Angeles.
Even the proper way to throw punches was relayed by Pacquiao to the three undercard boxers who are all being managed by Sean Gibbons, who heads MP Promotions and Knucklehead Boxing.
The presence of Magsayo, Marcial and Ancajas on the same night Pacquiao is fighting only made the 19 July show truly a must-see.
Like Pacquiao, the three boxers also do their afternoon training at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.
Pacquiao does this at the training facility’s first floor while the rest use the second-floor gym.
