Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI) president Aniceto “Chito” Sobrepeña will step down after three decades in his post, effective 16 July.

He will be replaced by Philip Francisco “Boyet” Dy, the company’s current executive vice president, whom he said in a personal message to DAILY TRIBUNE he has groomed as his successor. “Chito” to many, Sobrepeña was elected MBFI’s first executive director in 1995, serving in that role for 11 years.

In 2006, he was elected president and has served in that capacity until this year, holding the position for a total of 19 years.

He also announced he is relinquishing his concurrent responsibility as the very first executive director of Dr. George S.K. Ty’s family foundation, the GT Foundation — a role he has held since 2009.

Still part of the family

Despite stepping down from his top post, Sobrepeña said he will remain as Metrobank’s consultant and a trustee of the foundation.

Similarly, he will continue serving as vice chairman of Manila Doctors Hospital, chairman of Manila Tytana Colleges, and trustee of the GT Foundation. “I am deeply grateful to the family of the late Dr. George S.K. Ty, led now by Mrs. Mary Ty, Arthur Ty, Alfred Ty, Anjanette Dy Buncio & Alessandra Ty for their unstinting support to all the initiatives,” he said in a statement.

“Thank you for the support and friendship you have extended to me personally. I look forward to our continued relationship as well as your support for Boyet and our projects.”
