A low-pressure area (LPA) has developed over the waters of Northern Mindanao, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA.
As of 3:00 PM, the LPA was last spotted 1,120 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, near the boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
PAGASA said the weather system has a “low” chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.
Weather Specialist John Manalo said in a forecast that the LPA is expected to enter the PAR within the next 24 hours and will move generally northwestward due to the "upward movement of winds."
The trough, or extension of the LPA, is forecast to bring isolated rainfall over Eastern Visayas and the eastern portion of Mindanao.
Once the LPA strengthens into a tropical depression, it will be given the local name Auring — the first storm of 2025.
Meanwhile, the western section of Luzon — specifically the provinces of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, and areas in the Ilocos and Cordillera regions — will experience rains due to the southwest monsoon.
Last Wednesday, PAGASA issued a tropical cyclone formation outlook indicating that from 4 June to 10 June, a tropical cyclone-like vortex may form over the Pacific Ocean and move northwestward.
No gale warnings have been raised over any of the country’s seaboards.
