The Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-VII) revealed on Tuesday that it has recorded six cases of Monkeypox (Mpox) in the region since 2024.
Newly appointed DOH-VII Regional Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes reported that five of the six patients have recovered, while one fatality was recorded in Talisay City.
“The one death case in Talisay City was confirmed but the cause of death was not due to Mpox. He had comorbidity and his immune system declined which added to complications,” Brillantes clarified.
All six confirmed cases involved male patients aged 40 and below.
Brillantes noted that even the individual who passed away had initially shown signs of recovery but later suffered complications because of his underlying health issues.
City and regional health officials are urging the public to remain calm yet vigilant, practice good hygiene, avoid close contact with symptomatic individuals, and report any suspected cases to health authorities immediately.
Currently, four individuals in Cebu City are under hospital isolation as suspected Mpox cases. One suspected case is also being monitored in Mandaue City, and another in Talisay City.
