
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos could not contain her excitement over attending the ASEAN Spouses program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In a social media post, Mrs. Marcos recounted the beautiful and heartwarming welcome by the Malaysian community at the Seri Perdana Complex hosted by Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the wife of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“We were greeted by children waving ASEAN flags and gifted with beautiful vegetable bouquets,” the First Lady shared.
“Inside, we explored traditional crafts like batik coloring, gold-thread embroidery,” she added.
The First Lady was in awe after viewing stunning textile displays of songket and telepok which reminded her of the incredible works produced by Filipino artisans.
“Thank you to our gracious hosts for celebrating not just our friendship as nations, but also the shared creativity and quiet strength of women across ASEAN,” she wrote.
Through her social media posts, Mrs. Marcos shared the work of Malaysians to bridge the gap between the two nations through a shared appreciation of artistry.
“Impressed by the organization and the cultural displays. Well done!” one follower said.
“The cultural exhibit looks absolutely stunning,” another user commented.
Meanwhile, the First Couple attended the gala dinner hosted by the Malaysian hosts, PM Anwar and his wife.
“A truly special evening where nations came together — bound by friendship, mutual respect, and a shared vision for our region,” Mrs. Marcos said.
The First Couple donned simple yet elegant clothing representing the traditional Filipiniana and barong Tagalog.
Mrs. Marcos expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome of their gracious hosts.
“Thank you, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah, for bringing us together in unity and celebration,” she said.
