Stars converge in a celebration of excellence as the season’s cream of the crop receive their much-deserved recognition in the inaugural Pilipinas Live Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Awards Night today at the Novotel.
Two-time All-Filipino Conference Most Valuable Player Brooke Van Sickle of Peto Gazz headlines the list of honorees to be feted in front of a gathering of who’s who of league standouts, executives, team officials and stakeholders.
The Filipino-American earned the validation of her peers and the media, on top of raw statistical dominance for Petro Gazz, to snag the inaugural PVL Season MVP award.
“Tonight, we shine the spotlight on those who stood tallest, leapt highest, and dug deepest — the first-ever awardees of the PVL Awards Night,” said league president Ricky Palou.
“But in truth, each of you, every player, coach, staff member, and team, emerged victorious. You elevated the game. You inspired a nation.”
Other top awardees include Alas Pilipinas middle blocker Thea Gagate as the PVL PC Rookie of the Year, a distinction built off her undeniable contributions to a ZUS Coffee side fresh off a breakthrough quarterfinals stint.
Meanwhile, the Creamline Cool Smashers, coming off a pioneering grand slam sweep of the 2024 season, will rise as the Team of the Year, as their amiable mentor Sherwin Meneses is set to claim the Coach of the Year honor in the formal awards rites presented by Arena Plus.
In relation, Rebisco vice chairman and CEO Jonathan Ng will claim his deserved place as the Executive of the Year, thanks to his sharp business acumen to help lift Creamline to become the winningest franchise, highlighted by a historic grand slam last year.
This award is further validated by the ever-passionate Rebisco fanbase, who voted Choco Mucho superstar setter Deanna Wong as the runaway crowdsourced PVL PC Fan Favorite award winner.
Special awards in the league organized by Sports Vision will also be given out, including the Most Improved Player plum for Akari standout Eli Soyud, the Comeback Player of the Year trophy to star libero Alyssa Eroa, and the Ms. Quality Minutes citation to ageless setter Chie Saet of eventual AFC champion Petro Gazz.
The Pilipinas Live Game of the Year will be handed to Choco Mucho and PLDT after an epic quarterfinals Game 2 duel in the 2024-25 AFC, while another interactive award will be given to the brightest and most stunning player receiving the Star of the Night on the latter part of the ceremony.
Last but not the least, the PVL and its press corps also shine a deserved spotlight on the valiant men of the Spikers’ Turf, to be represented by Criss Cross star spiker Jude Garcia as the first-ever Spikers’ Turf MVP of the Season.
Garcia will also headline the Mythical Team, winning one of the two Best Outside Hitter awards with Savouge’s Sherwin Caritativo, Best Setter Ish Polvorosa of Criss Cross, Best Middle Blockers Gian Glorioso (Criss Cross) and Giles Torres (Savouge) as well as Cignal’s Best Opposite Spiker Steven Rotter and Best Libero Vince Lorenzo.
All in all, the PVL PC Awards Night promises to be a night of celebration, not only for those who make noise on the court, but also those who labor behind the lines, all contributing in their own ways for the sustained growth of Philippine volleyball.
