KUALA LUMPUR — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Malaysia for the 46th ASEAN Summit, where she took part in activities with fellow spouses of the Southeast Asian leaders.
“Looking forward to supporting my husband and connecting with fellow ASEAN spouses as we continue to deepen friendships and partnerships across the region,” Mrs. Marcos said.
While the region’s leaders tackled key political and economic issues, their spouses gathered to discuss advocacy work and share experiences on culture, health, and social development — causes close to their hearts and homes.
Mrs. Marcos was warmly welcomed by Malaysia’s First Lady, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who hosted a luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex in honor of the visiting ASEAN spouses.
Dr. Wan Azizah emphasized the power of cultural diplomacy in strengthening regional bonds, aligning with this year’s ASEAN theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
This year’s gathering is particularly meaningful for the Philippines, as it sets the stage for its chairmanship of ASEAN in 2026. Mrs. Marcos’s participation gave her a firsthand glimpse into the responsibilities that come with the role.
Filipinos online were quick to cheer her on.
“Such a proud moment seeing our First Lady shining on the global stage,” one user commented.
“Wishing you a successful and meaningful ASEAN Summit experience, FL Liza,” said another.
“May your efforts continue to foster peace, friendship, and cooperation across ASEAN,” read another message of support.
In return, Mrs. Marcos expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s hospitality: “Grateful to the Malaysian government for the warm and gracious welcome. Honored to join the 46th ASEAN Summit. Excited to see the delegates working together for a stronger, more united Southeast Asia.”
