Families of bereaved police personnel received certificates of educational assistance from the Bayaning Pulis Foundation during a ceremony on Monday, as the Philippine National Police (PNP) reaffirmed its commitment to support the families of those who died in the line of duty.
The event, held in Pasay City and attended by PNP Chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil, underscored the PNP’s pledge to care for its personnel and their loved ones.
“This assistance is more than just a financial support; it is a gesture for enduring support, a commitment that the Philippine National Police family does not forget,” Marbil said.
He continued that it is the PNP’s commitment to take care of the families left behind by their police relatives.
Among the recipients was Myra Madrid, whose husband, Police Staff Sergeant Demar Madrid, died in a vehicular incident in La Union in November 2023.
“Thank you to the PNP and General Marbil. Assistance like these is a big help to the families left behind by police officers,” Madrid said emotionally, as she reminisced how her family coped with Demar’s death.
Madrid is survived by Myra and their three children, aged 4, 9, and 13.
Marbil added that the national police is not just a law enforcement body, as it is “bounded by service, sacrifice, and solidarity.”
“We may lose our comrades in battle, but we will never abandon the families. Because in every child we help educate, in every life we help rebuild, we carry forward the spirit of those who gave everything.”
On Friday, 23 May, Police Staff Sergeant Carlo Navarro of the Parañaque PNP was stabbed in the head and chest when a man went amuck.
Marbil said the PNP is covering Navarro’s hospital expenses and is willing to provide further assistance should he require rehabilitation, which will be conducted at the PNP General Hospital.
The Bayaning Pulis Foundation is a partnership between the PNP and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), aimed at extending financial and social support to the families of police officers who died or were permanently disabled in the line of duty.
