
Cebu Governor-elect Pamela Baricuatro and Cebu City Mayor-elect Nestor Archival confirmed on Saturday their support of the P20-per-kilo rice program.
In separate interviews by the DAILY TRIBUNE, Baricuatro said she would support the program depending on the availability of funds.
“I want everyone to have access to the P20-per-kilo,” she said, highlighting her goal of ensuring afforda ble food for all sectors of society.
She reiterated food security as one of her administration’s top priorities aside from healthcare.
For Archival, he confirmed that there was a meeting concerning the program that he attended.
“We will participate and take note as what I have understood, P10 from Cebu City, P10 from the national government, but the moment that we are going to sell it, the money from the city will return,” he said.
National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator Larry Lacson visited Cebu on Friday to assure stocks availability.
For Cebu, there are about 35,000 bags available.
Initial count disclosed that 35 of the 53 local government units in Cebu are availing of the rice program.
