Looks like it’s almost time to say goodbye to the dry season.
According to state weather bureau PAGASA, signs are pointing to a shift in weather starting the first week of June, with more rains expected over the western parts of Luzon including Metro Manila. This is due to the possible return of the southwest monsoon or Habagat, along with incoming weather systems that could bring frequent rain.
From today until Sunday, 23 to 25 May, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in Mindanao, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and Palawan. The rest of the country may still experience hot and humid weather but expect some afternoon or evening downpours.
By Monday and Tuesday, 26 to 27 May, scattered rain will likely continue in Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. Most other parts of the country will have generally fair weather but occasional thunderstorms are still possible.
From Wednesday to Friday, 28 to 30 May, cooler winds from the north and incoming rain clouds could bring more scattered rains to parts of Northern Luzon, especially the Ilocos Region, Bataan, and Zambales. The rest of the country will continue to see on-and-off showers, especially in the late afternoon.
A low-pressure area may also develop during this time which could bring more widespread rains.
PAGASA is advising everyone to prepare for possible flash floods or landslides in areas prone to these hazards. While nothing is final yet, all signs are hinting that the dry season may be coming to an end, so it’s best to keep your umbrellas handy.
