For Cebu Governor-elect Pamela Baricuatro, she would rather spend the P255-million one-day budget for “Pasigarbo Sa Sugbo” for mobile kitchen to feed the 1.72 million families in hunger than the local festival.
Also, Baricuatro will discontinue the Suroy Suroy Sugbo or visit Cebu program to the municipalities and cities.
“We will replace these two events with mobile clinics and mobile kitchens that will be deployed to the province’s remote areas,” Baricuatro told DAILY TRIBUNE in an exclusive interview.
“If anyone is going around the province, it won’t be me. It will be our mobile clinics and our mobile kitchens that will feed the people,” she stressed.
Baricuatro cited the P255-million expenses for Pasigarbo in one day.
“Why do you let third-class municipalities compete with component cities? How can they compete in terms of budget? Logistically, it’s improbable. They look so pitiful,” the Governor-elect insisted.
“Pasigarbo sa Sugbo” was launched in 2008 as a competition showcasing the festivals of local government units under the provincial government. It was held every August to coincide with the founding anniversary of Cebu Province.
“Suroy Suroy Sa Sugbo” was launched in 2004 to showcase Cebu’s towns through travel packages.
“I think there has to be one festivity in Cebu island. That’s Sinulog,” she said.
