Bagong Henerasyon questions Comelec’s suspension of proclamation

Bagong Henerasyon Party-list decried on Monday the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to suspend its proclamation.

During the proclamation ceremony held at the Manila Hotel Tent City on Monday, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia formally announced the suspension of the Bagong Henerasyon Party-list and the Duterte Youth Party-list due to pending cases filed against them before the Clerk of the Commission.

The Bagong Henerasyon garnered a total of 319,803 votes in the 2025 midterm elections.

In a statement acquired by the DAILY TRIBUNE, Bagong Henerasyon said the poll body announced their suspension "without notice, warning, or any prior information."

"Bagong Henerasyon has not received, seen, or even heard anything about this alleged case. How can we be held accountable for an accusation that we do not even know about, has no name, no formal details, and no identity?" the party-list group lamented.

"Comelec rules themselves state: The proclamation shall continue unless a case has a final resolution. In this case — which to date has not had a formal citation or notice — how can the suspension be fair?" it added.

While the Bagong Henerasyon vowed that it is "fully prepared to deal with any complaint, anytime, anywhere," it argued that until such complaint is properly publicized and due process is provided, the suspension of its proclamation and the nullification of the over 319,000 votes "is not only an injustice, but a violation in the Constitution."

The Bagong Henerasyon, which is poised to get a seat in the House of Representatives, also called on the Comelec to enforce the law and noted that it has filed an urgent motion to proclaim the party-list group.

Aside from the Bagong Henerasyon Party-list, the Comelec also postponed the proclamation of the Duterte Youth Party-list.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia, meanwhile, clarified that the suspension of their proclamation would not nullify the party-lists' win.

"It would be better for all of us to resolve the pending cases first so the proclamation won't go to waste," Garcia noted, adding that the poll body targets to resolve the pending cases on or before 30 June, when all proclaimed winners are set to assume office.
