After Senator Imee Marcos claimed on Monday that Automated Counting Machines (ACMs) were allegedly printing receipts bearing the name of Benhur Abalos despite voters not selecting him, the former Interior Secretary said he would allow authorities to investigate the matter.
"This is the first time we’ve heard of the allegation. I will leave it to the proper authorities to assess and respond to the allegation, if warranted," senatorial candidate Benhur Abalos said in a statement.
Abalos noted that in the final days of the campaign, he gained significant endorsements that boosted his survey performance.
He cited endorsements from Vice Ganda, former vice president Leni Robredo, former senate president Franklin Drilon, as well as religious leaders from the Jesus Is Lord Church, the Liga ng mga Barangay, and other organizations as a result of his “tireless effort, sincere dedication, and a clear commitment to serving the Filipino people.”
Abalos is running under the administration-backed Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.
The former Mandaluyong mayor also emphasized that the outcome of their hard work has built momentum in their Senate campaign.
"This momentum is real. This movement is growing. And we are prepared to carry the trust of the Filipino people all the way to the Senate," he said.
In the final survey released by Social Weather Stations (SWS), Abalos emerged as the biggest gainer, rising 7 points from 17 percent in March to 24 percent in May, edging closer to the “Magic 12,” or the candidates projected to win Senate seats.
