Following President Ferdinand "Bong Bong" Marcos Jr.'s order to guarantee safe and peaceful elections, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has issued a serious warning to all foreign nationals that they are not permitted to participate in any political activity in the country.
BI Commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado stressed that all foreign nationals must adhere rigorously to the restrictions of their stay.
"We welcome foreign visitors to the Philippines, but they must abide by our laws and not meddle in any political process," Atty. Viado stated.
The advisory comes ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, when heightened political engagement is expected throughout the country. The BI chief explained that all foreign nationals are prohibited from joining rallies, campaigns, or any political gatherings. These actions may be grounds for deportation. Such participation is a violation of Philippine immigration policies, which bar foreign individuals from involvement in any political activities.
Additionally, Atty. Viado reassured the public that the BI is actively cooperating with election and law enforcement agencies to keep an eye out for any possible infractions. Foreign nationals who are found violating these rules may face visa cancellation, blacklisting, and possible deportation.
The public is encouraged to report any irregularities or suspicious activity involving foreign nationals through its official Facebook page.
