LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — A woman was arrested Thursday noon, 8 May, in Barangay 48-A, Laoag City for her alleged involvement in vote buying, sources confirmed in an exclusive interview with the DAILY TRIBUNE.
According to sources familiar with the incident, law enforcers responded to a report about alleged vote-buying activity at a local store. Officers reportedly arrived to find several unidentified individuals leaving the premises in a hurry.
The woman, who was inside the store, was questioned but denied any wrongdoing. However, sources told the Tribune that officers allegedly discovered seven campaign flyers bearing the names of local candidates, each with a P1,000 bill attached, placed openly on the cashier’s table.
Following this, authorities arrested the woman at the scene, apprised her of her rights, and brought her for medical examination before being taken to the station.
As of press time, the Philippine National Police has yet to release an official statement, and the political affiliation of the woman remains unverified.
The investigation is still ongoing.
