Carpenter shot to death

Authorities are checking the scene of the crime after a carpenter was shot to death by a still unidentified assailant.

CAMP CAPT. VALENTIN S. JUAN, Laoag City — A 37-year-old carpenter was shot and killed in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, on Sunday and police said the suspect was immediately arrested following a pursuit.
The victim was identified as Mark Anthony Pahinag Galgalan, a resident of Sitio Cabuaan, Barangay Napu, Badoc. According to a police report, the Badoc Municipal Police Station received a call about a shooting incident around 12:03 p.m.
Initial investigation revealed that Galgalan was about to start drinking with companions when the suspect, a 47-year-old male farmer from the same barangay, arrived armed with a firearm. Witnesses told police the suspect pointed the gun at the victim’s companions before ordering Galgalan to drink and then shooting him in the head for no apparent reason.
The suspect fled eastward on a black TMX motorcycle wearing shorts and a white shirt.
Badoc police launched a pursuit operation and successfully apprehended the suspect at his residence, recovering the motorcycle used in the escape. Authorities are still searching for the firearm.
The Ilocos Norte Provincial Forensic Unit recovered one fired cartridge case of caliber .45 from the crime scene.
Galgalan was taken to Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in Batac City but was declared dead around 12:50 p.m. while receiving treatment.
Police indicated that the motive appeared to be a personal grudge and was not related to any election issues.
