Determined to create and maintain a dynasty, repeat-seeking University of the Philippines beefed up its point guard position with the addition of another talented transferee Rain Maga.
Maga, who played for University of the East (UE) in Season 87, will undergo a one-year residency and will suit up in next year’s University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball tournament.
The six-foot playmaker will bring added firepower to the table for UP. He averaged 8.1 points, including 40-percent from threes, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 22 minutes of action for the Red Warriors last year.
Maga will be eligible for two years.
Now with the Fighting Maroons, he will link up once more with former teammate Rey Remogat, as State U continues to stock up the point guard position following the departure of Finals Most Valuable Player JD Cagulangan.
Remogat had already completed his residency and will be eligible for Season 88.
While UP looks forward to his addition, its sights are still set on defending its title with Remogat, Harold Alarcon, Gerry Abadiano, and Jacob Bayla at the forefront.
The Maroons earlier welcomed onetime National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Finals Most Valuable Player James Payosing from San Beda University and Jose Maria College standout Arvie Poyos to bolster their backcourt.
