Seventeen is turning up the heat with the release of the official trailer for their highly anticipated fifth studio album, HAPPY BURSTDAY. Unveiled on 28 April, the interactive DARE OR DEATH trailer gives fans an electrifying sneak peek into the group's explosive comeback.
In celebration of their 10th anniversary, the 13-member group — S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, Dokyeom, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino — will release the album on 26 May.
Posted on Seventeen’s official social media accounts, the promotional video unfolds in an interactive format with three episodes, allowing viewers to experience different endings based on their choices: Side A "DARE" and Side B "DEATH."
The trailer's main storyline depicts the members encountering the "Daredevil" — a being engulfed in flames — and succumbing to an unknown impulse.
The first video ends with a powerful shot of Wonwoo atop a building, facing a choice, accompanied by the words: "Choose for yourself. Challenge or Settle."
The Side A "DARE" version shows Seventeen boldly embracing challenges, breaking through fear, accepting the Daredevil within, and being reborn into a new, complete existence. Intense choreography and erupting flames highlight the group’s transformation.
In contrast, the Side B "DEATH" version explores what happens when one ignores the inner voice and chooses to remain stagnant. The members, consumed by fear and anxiety, vanish into thick smoke, culminating in the appearance of a "MISSING" flyer — a haunting symbol of lost potential.
Both versions conclude with strong affirmations of the group's themes: "FACE THE CHALLENGE, BURN ANEW" and "WITHOUT CHALLENGE, THERE IS NO NEW BEGINNING," emphasizing Seventeen’s unwavering message of growth and rebirth.
Seventeen had earlier revealed the album title HAPPY BURSTDAY, a fusion of "birthday" and "burst," symbolizing a powerful, explosive rebirth. With the trailer offering two different endings, fans’ anticipation for the group's next chapter has soared.
