Two unemployed individuals were arrested in North Caloocan after being caught with around 11 kilograms of illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Amparo, North Caloocan, on Sunday night.
Different police units, such as the Special Operations Unit 3 of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (DEG), the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Northern Police District, PDEA NCR Regional Special Enforcement Team 1, and Amparo Substation, conducted the anti-drug operation.
Upon investigation, it was found that the arrested suspects, alias Johari, 26, and alias Ambulo, 24, are not residents of North Caloocan. Authorities also reported that the two suspects were supplying illegal drugs within Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Southern Luzon.
The illegal drugs, estimated at around 11 kilograms, have a street value of P74.8 million.
"That’s one of our problems in Camanava — this area has several entry and exit points, which is why illegal drugs continue to circulate here,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Aniway, head of the Northern Police District’s anti-drug unit.
Aniway added that police are still checking the possibility that the illegal drugs were imported into the country, as the narcotics were placed in packaging with Chinese characters.
At least a month-long surveillance by operatives led to the successful interception of the two drug pushers.
Interrogation by police revealed that the two suspects remained silent about the source of their illegal drugs and the individuals they supplied.
Both suspects will undergo their respective inquest proceedings on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, during which they will be charged with violations of Sections 5, 11, and 26 of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
