Washington-based online newsmagazine, US News & World Report, has hailed the Last Frontier — Palawan — as the best island to go to this year, which was lauded by the Department of Tourism.
“The Philippine archipelago’s 7,600-plus islands and islets entice adventure seekers and beach bums alike. Here, island hoppers can swim in the exceptionally clear Kayangan Lake in Coron, tour the lagoons of Bacuit Bay in El Nido, and kayak through caves on the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River,” the newsmagazine wrote in describing the pristine province it chose as the best island among the 24 island destinations in the selection.
Trailing Palawan was Sardinia in Italy; the island nation of Mauritius; Santorini of Greece; the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean; Cyprus; Tahiti; Whitsunday Islands; South Island, New Zealand and Bora Bora.
With this, the Department of Tourism said “the incredible honor affirms what we Filipinos have always known — that Palawan with its pristine turquoise waters, towering limestone cliffs, majestic underground rivers, and rich biodiversity, is truly a paradise unlike any other.”
“From the enchanting lagoons of El Nido and Coron to the Unesco World Heritage-listed Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, Palawan continues to captivate the hearts of travelers from all over the world,” the DoT said.
It said that under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and following the National Tourism Development Plan 2023–2028, the DoT remains steadfast in its mission to position the Philippines as a tourism powerhouse in Asia.
“Palawan’s recognition aligns perfectly with our ongoing efforts to promote sustainable, inclusive and globally competitive tourism, while highlighting the unique culture and hospitality of our people. This global acclaim is not only a celebration of Palawan’s breathtaking natural beauty but also a tribute to the local communities, tourism workers, and stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to preserve and promote its treasures,” the DoT said.
