ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Former senator and 2025 senatorial candidate Kiko Pangilinan reconnected with his Kapampangan roots during a campaign rally and concert at Tiangge Park, Northville 15 on Wednesday, where he called for stronger support for farmers and fisherfolk, and more honest, people-centered governance.
Earlier, Pangilinan joined a Youth Forum at Angeles University Foundation, where he highlighted the importance of achieving Zero Hunger and No Poverty through better agricultural policies.
“We won’t end hunger or poverty unless we strengthen agriculture,” he told students, emphasizing the need for agricultural education and grassroots involvement.
At the rally, Pangilinan proposed an P800-billion budget for the Department of Agriculture over six years, focusing on crop insurance, rice drying and storage facilities and extension services.
“We can bring rice prices down — if we invest in our farmers. Public funds should go to public service, not politicians’ pockets,” he said.
He also promoted the Sagip Saka Act, which he authored to allow direct government purchases from farmers and fisherfolk, cutting costs and boosting local income.
Though not fluent in Kapampangan, Pangilinan said he’s proud of his Pampanga roots, recalling his father, Donato Pangilinan Jr., as a principled, compassionate Kapampangan from Sto. Tomas.
“You’ve elected me three times. I gave that trust back with honest service. In over 20 years in politics, I’ve never been involved in any scandal.”
Despite limited machinery, Pangilinan said he’s counting on the people — especially his fellow Kapampangans — to back him again.
“Even with all the trolls and attacks, I’m proud of where I came from. My service is sincere, and I’ll keep fighting for what’s right.”
