A Filipino domestic worker was found lifeless inside his employer's apartment along Via Randaccio in Milan last Sunday, around 6:30 in the evening.
The victim was identified as 61-year-old Angelito Acob Manansala. According to reports by a Milan-based news outlet, the apartment’s owner, a 52-year-old Israeli national and member of the Jewish community, had just returned from a vacation when he found the lifeless body of Manansala with a man rummaging through the furniture.
Police identified the thief and alleged murderer as a 28-year-old Gambian. Investigators believe that the Gambian man may have broken into the apartment and killed the Filipino upon being discovered.
In a statement released Monday, the Philippine Consulate General in Milan said that Manansala appeared to have been strangled.
“Our kababayan appeared to have been strangled to death by the suspect who broke into the apartment of the victim’s Israeli employer near Parco Sempione. The suspect was arrested by police at the scene of the crime,” read in the statement.
On 22 April, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Undersecretary for Foreign Employment and Welfare Felicitas Bay said that the DMW was notified of the incident by Milan’s Migrant Workers Office and are now in coordination with Manansala’s next of kin for the repatriation of his remains.
“The assailant was arrested at the scene of the crime and is under police custody pending investigation,” Bay confirmed.
