Another Maguindanao town placed under Comelec control

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has placed Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur under its control due to rising poll-related incidents.
Chairperson George Garcia said the Commission en banc promulgated Resolution 11131, placing Buluan under its control effective immediately, citing a “series of shooting incidents and violence” which pose “threats to the peaceful and orderly conduct of elections.”
This is the second area in the country placed under Comelec control ahead of the midterm elections.
Earlier this month, the Comelec placed Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte under its control following the ambush of the town's election officer, Bai Maceda Lidasan-Abo, and her husband, Jojo.
Under Comelec Resolution No. 10757, any political division, subdivision, unit, or area may be placed under Comelec control when the peace and order situation in the area may affect the conduct of the elections.
This designation allows the poll body to address threats to public order and mitigate the risks of violence or unrest by intensifying security measures, including heightened surveillance and increased police presence.
