No water shortage seen this summer — MWSS

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) assured the public on Saturday that there will be no water supply shortage this summer season.

In a radio interview, MWSS acting deputy administrator Patrick Dizon said water reserves in nearby reservoirs are sufficient to meet the demand.

“We were able to store enough water for the summer, so we don’t expect any shortage,” Dizon said.

He noted that Angat Dam in Bulacan, which supplies about 90 percent of Metro Manila’s water needs, currently has an elevation of 208 meters — well above critical level.

“At this elevation, we will not have a water shortage this year,” he added.

Dizon also highlighted that dependency on Angat Dam is gradually decreasing as new sources are developed.

“Last year, our dependency on Angat was 96 percent. We have reduced that to 90 percent, and once Wawa Dam becomes operational, it will drop further to 86 percent,” Dizon explained.

The Upper Wawa Dam in Rodriguez, Rizal, is expected to be operational by December 2025. It will have a year-round capacity of over 700 million liters per day, helping to ensure water security for Metro Manila and surrounding areas, including the province of Rizal.
