DAILY TRIBUNE sports reporter Ivan Suing won first place in the 2025 National MILO Marathon sportswriting contest.
His 2 March story, “Estampador: No pain, no gain,” which focused on the resilience of injured middle-distance runner Ritchie Estampador, took top honors and the P10,000 prize.
Suing, a product of the University of Santo Tomas journalism school, was a staffer of The Varsitarian before joining DAILY TRIBUNE in 2021.
The 26-year-old Suing bested John Bryan Ulanday of the Philippine STAR, who got second place for the story “Deaf runners gain share of spotlight as MILO Marathon pushes for inclusivity,” and Peter Gabriel Atencio of Manila Standard, who bagged third place for the story “The Danaos: A passion for running nurtured by love.”
A native of Manila, Suing also covers the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee as well as athletics, tennis, football, baseball, swimming, basketball and volleyball.
In 2023, Suing covered the Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for the DAILY TRIBUNE.
