The Commission on Elections (Comelec) assured on Thursday that all of its data remains safe and secure following a recent hacking attempt on its website.
On Wednesday, 9 April, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia disclosed that the poll body's website received 75,000 attempts to hack its internet voting system for Filipino overseas.
"It was not recognized by the usernames, therefore, we know that it is an effort to hack our system," Garcia said in Filipino.
"Even though our system receives millions of attempts of hacking, they have not been successful," he added.
Garcia stated that the attempts were believed to have originated from the Philippines, not from abroad.
"They only made it seem like the hacking came from China, Middle East, Singapore, from the United States, or even from Africa. But they are all from the Philippines," he added.
"But we guarantee our system is secure, and we do not have a breach in the past elections, and even in the upcoming polls."
