Gilas Pilipinas Women is eyeing to compete in overseas tournaments in preparation for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in Shenzhen, China from 13 to 20 July.
Head coach Pat Aquino told DAILY TRIBUNE that they have been receiving invites from other countries to participate in competitions and they would just have to make sure it fits their schedule.
The Philippines will be playing in Group B with Japan, Australia and Lebanon.
“We are talking about which will be the best for us and what will fit with our schedule since we have to factor in the return of the players,” Aquino said.
“There are those like the WKBL (Women’s Korean Basketball League), Jones Cup, and Australia that invited us invited. All of those are great competitions and we just have to discuss this and make sure it fits our schedule.
Gilas Women finished the Jones Cup last year in fourth place with a 2-3 win-loss record.
But the Philippines could skip the Jones Cup entirely should it clash with the Women’s Asia Cup schedule.
This edition of the Women’s Asia Cup offers six slots to the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.
