Senator Robin Padilla shares Duterte's words, Ignites social media reactions

Senator Robinhood Padilla trended on social media after sharing some words on Saturday that seemed to be from former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

In a series of Facebook posts, the Philippine senator caught the attention of supporters of the ex-president, who is now in the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) detention facility in Scheveningen, The Hague.

Some of these words appeared to be based on a personal conversation Padilla had with the former president after he personally visited Duterte, alongside Vice President Sara Duterte and other close friends and supporters.

"I want to die in my country," Padilla quoted Duterte in his post.

In addition, Padilla shared another phrase from the ex-president: "Everything I did was for my country," Padilla wrote.

Aside from the quotes from Duterte, Padilla also used a famous quote from former American president John F. Kennedy: "Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country," which seemed related to his earlier posts from the ex-president.

As of this writing, Senator Padilla is already back in the Philippines after his personal visit to the ex-president at the ICC’s detention facility in Scheveningen, The Hague.

Recently, Vice President Sara Duterte and President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos had a sentimental exchange of gratitude.

This came after Vice President Duterte revealed that her visits to the ICC detention facility had allowed her to spend more meaningful time with her father.

"This is really ironic because I have to thank Bongbong Marcos. There was forgiveness between me and PRD for all that has happened in our lives, and now we have a father-daughter relationship. We can no longer discuss legal matters because only the lawyers are allowed to do that inside, but this has given us time to reconnect," she shared.

Following this, President Marcos expressed happiness over his role in helping mend the relationship between Vice President Sara Duterte and her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

In response, Marcos was quoted as saying, “Glad I could help,” according to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro.
