Pasig mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya has pledged to deliver medicines directly to senior citizens’ homes if she wins in the May midterm elections.
“To our senior citizens, we want to make sure that you receive your medications through home delivery,” Discaya said in Filipino during her speech at a caucus meeting in Barangay Sagad on Thursday evening.
She also proposed hiring unemployed men in Pasig as delivery riders for this service.
“Those who have motorcycles but no jobs, you will be the ones to deliver medicines to our seniors,” she added.
In addition to her focus on senior citizens, Discaya has committed to constructing a world-class public hospital, equipped with modern facilities and technology.
“Has anyone here been confined at PCGH [Pasig City General Hospital]? What was your experience? We’ve heard that patients in the ER are on monobloc chairs with IV drips, sometimes for days,” Discaya said.
“Is that right? It’s not a lie. These are from people who have experienced it themselves,” she added.
Discaya’s main priority, she emphasized, is to improve healthcare services for Pasigueños. She plans to build an additional hospital to reduce congestion at PCGH.
“We aim to build a state-of-the-art hospital because when you’re sick, you shouldn’t be further burdened,” Discaya said.
“When you enter a hospital, it shouldn’t feel like your last stop or force you to go to expensive private hospitals you can’t afford,” she added.
Discaya also mentioned that many patients from PCGH have approached her charity foundation for help with MRI, CT scans and laboratory services.
“Why isn’t this available at our hospital?” she asked.
“We want to make sure that all of these services are provided at the hospital, and patients shouldn’t worry about costs, especially indigent ones. It will be zero billing for them,” she said.
