The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported the arrest of a Russian vlogger who went viral on social media for harassing Filipinos in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
BI Intelligence Division (BIID) chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. identified the Russian vlogger as Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, a 33-year-old man who was arrested after being tagged as an undesirable foreign national following his viral social media post.
Manahan said that his arrest is part of the government's ongoing efforts to keep the peace and protect public safety, in accordance with President Ferdinand "Bong Bong" Marcos Jr.'s dedication to protecting Filipinos' rights and dignity.
Although Filipinos are known for their hospitality, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized that foreign visitors are obliged to follow the laws of the Philippines and local customs.
"The Philippines welcomes tourists from around the world, but we will take swift action against those who violate our laws and abuse our hospitality. Harassment and disruptive behavior have no place in our society," Viado said.
After Vitaly posted videos where he was harassing and disrespecting Filipinos while filming in the BGC area, netizens criticized and became angry at his actions.
According to Atty. Viado, his arrest was conducted through coordination with PNP Makati and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Based on reports, a security guard assigned to BGC filed a police blotter, alleging harassment, with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Southern Police District. Following a mission order issued by Commissioner Viado, the CIDG promptly coordinated the situation with BI intelligence agents, who executed the arrest.
As Vitaly awaits his deportation proceedings, he is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
"Our laws exist to protect the welfare of Filipinos. Let this serve as a reminder that while we welcome visitors, those who fail to respect our people and our laws will face the consequences," the BI chief disclosed.
