Rubilen Amit will be laser-focused when she competes in the World Games in Chengdu, China from 7 to 17 August.
Amit told DAILY TRIBUNE that he might skip the upcoming World 8-Ball Championships in the United States from 2 to 6 July so she can focus on the World Games, an international event featuring sports that are not being played in Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
Aside from Amit, also tasked to represent the country in the quadrennial multi-sport tournament Southeast Asian Games veterans Johann Chua and Chezka Centeno.
“There is a World 8-Ball Championship in July but I’m not sure if I’m going to participate because I will also compete in the World Games,” Amit said.
“The World 8-Ball is in the US while the World Games will be in China. I’m thinking that if I go to the US and play, I might have a hard time recovering because of jet lag.”
The 43-year-old Amit is coming off a successful campaign in the United States, where she clinched both the Las Vegas Women’s Open and Women’s Challenge of Champions early this month.
The 10-time SEA Games gold medalist hopes that her momentum in Las Vegas Women’s Open will carry over to the World Games since she will be stacked with practically the same opponents.
