The Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP), the local chapter of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable development in the country during its 8th General Assembly held on 4 March 2025.
The organization elected its 2025 Board of Trustees from among key leaders from different sectors. Elected to the board were Ma. Victoria Tan of Ayala Corporation, Ma. Luz Javier of the Philippine Marketing Association, Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar of Aboitiz Equity Ventures and Aboitiz Foundation, Anna Lagon of Bayo Manila, Dr. Hian Ho Kua of Manila Doctors Hospital, and Melissa Vergel de Dios of PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications.
The GCNP also welcomed 15 new participants into the network, bringing its total membership to 65. The group is composed of some of the Philippines’ largest companies — including SM Investments, BPI, Globe Telecom, Meralco, and Megaworld — as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs), industry groups, and civil society organizations.
As the official local network of the UNGC, the GCNP promotes corporate sustainability through the adoption of the UNGC’s Ten Principles and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its initiatives include peer learning events and capacity-building activities focused on improving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in Philippine businesses.
For 2025, GCNP announced plans to prioritize the implementation of the UNGC’s “Forward Faster Initiative.” This global effort encourages the private sector to accelerate action in five key areas: gender equality, living wages, climate action, water resilience, and SDG-related finance and investment.
The network aims to strengthen cross-sector partnerships and co-create programs that align global sustainability priorities with local needs.
