A vessel captain and another crew member were killed in a collision between two vessels in the waters off Maasim, Sarangani Province, on Tuesday.
According to a report from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the incident involved the Philippine-flagged tugboat M/TUG Sadong 33 and the Panamanian-flagged vessel MV Universe Kiza, which collided at around 4:20 a.m.
The company’s project engineer, who reported the incident, stated that M/TUG Sadong 33 had eight crew members on board.
As of 8 a.m., the Coast Guard search and rescue team reported that six of the eight crew members had been rescued and were in good physical condition.
However, the Coast Guard confirmed the death of M/TUG Sadong 33’s captain after recovering his body from the incident site.
The search and rescue team is continuing efforts to locate the last missing crew member.
Meanwhile, the PCG conducted an oil spill assessment, which yielded a negative result.
