In line with the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) commitment to enhancing regional airports, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon visited Mindanao from 22 to 23 March to evaluate key airport development projects.

Dizon first inspected Zamboanga International Airport, where construction is ongoing for a new passenger terminal building, runway repairs, and runway strip grading. The Zamboanga Airport development is slated for completion by July 2025, with current progress at 69.08 percent.

During his visit, Dizon, along with local government officials, also delivered over 78 land titles secured for the future airport site.

Next, Dizon reviewed the details of the new Camiguin Airport project. To proceed with the feasibility study master plan for the new airport, the DOTr will procure services.

Lastly, Dizon inspected Siargao Airport, where construction work is underway for various airport facilities.

Noting the immediate need for more space inside the terminal building for passengers, Dizon instructed Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) officials to begin expansion work to triple the airport's current seating capacity.

He also directed the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) to remove the initial passenger security screening following a careful security risk assessment.

The Siargao Airport development project is expected to be completed by May 2025 and is seen as a key gateway to boost tourism, benefiting both locals and visitors.

"Giving our Filipino travelers the greatest service is the President's explicit command. These airport development initiatives demonstrate our dedication to improving air travel while simultaneously accelerating the country's economic expansion," Dizon said.
