In accordance with the Department of Transportation’s (DoTr) commitment to enhance regional airports, DoTr Secretary Vince Dizon visited Mindanao from 22 to 23 March to evaluate important airport development projects.
'Giving our Filipino travelers the greatest service is the President’s explicit command.'
Dizon first inspected the Zamboanga International Airport, where continuing construction is taking place for the passenger terminal building, runway repair and runway strip grading. The development of Zamboanga Airport is expected to be finished by July 2025, with a current progress rate of 69.08 percent.
Also, during his visit, Dizon, together with local government officials, delivered over 78 land titles secured for the future airport site.
Afterward, the specifics of the new Camiguin Airport Project were then reviewed during the Transport Chief’s inspection at Camiguin Airport. In order to carry out the feasibility study master plan for the new airport, the DoTr will be procuring services.
Lastly, Dizon inspected the Siargao airport, where construction works are also underway for various airport facilities. Seeing the immediate need for more spaces inside the terminal building for the passengers.
During the visit at Siargao Airport, he instructed CAAP officials to immediately implement expansion works for the terminal building that will effectively triple the current seating capacity of the airport. Dizon also directed the Office for Transportation Security to remove the initial security screening of passengers after a careful security risk assessment was conducted.
The Siargao Airport development project is expected to be finished by May 2025 and is viewed as a vital gateway for increasing tourism, which will benefit local residents as well as tourists.
“Giving our Filipino travelers the greatest service is the President’s explicit command. These airport development initiatives demonstrate our dedication to improving air travel while simultaneously accelerating the country’s economic expansion,” Dizon stated.
