Senatorial candidate and Makati Mayor Abby Binay visited several municipalities in Batangas, engaging with local officials and discussing legislative priorities aimed at strengthening local government units (LGUs).
During her visit to Bauan, Cuenca, and Batangas City, Binay met with fellow mayors and officials to present her key advocacies, including regular salaries and benefits for barangay officials and insurance coverage for disaster response and rescue workers.
In Bauan, Binay was welcomed by Vice Mayor Ronald Cruzat at the municipal hall, where she expressed gratitude for the warm reception. She also acknowledged her family's deep ties to the province, as her grandfather, Diego Binay, father of former Vice President Jejomar Binay, was originally from Bauan.
Binay also paid a courtesy visit to Batangas City Mayor Beverly Dimacuha and met with Cuenca Mayor Alexander Magpantay alongside city officials and employees.
As part of her Senate bid, Binay vowed to be the voice of LGUs, bringing her firsthand experience as a mayor to policymaking.
"I will bring my experience as a mayor to the Senate to provide a local perspective when drafting policies and laws that will affect LGUs," Binay said.
She emphasized the need for practical and sensible legislation, noting how national laws often burden LGUs without considering their financial capacity. As an example, she cited the lack of national funding for the operation of super health centers built by the Department of Health (DOH) in various locations.
Binay's visit to Batangas is part of her ongoing efforts to engage with LGUs nationwide. She is set to meet with local officials in Alitagtag, Lemery, Calaca, Lipa City, Tanauan, and Sto. Tomas in the coming days.
