Stand-up comedian Gold Dagal was fatally shot in Pampanga on Saturday, 15 March. Dagal was known for his bold comedic style, often incorporating social commentary and jokes about the Iglesia ni Cristo.
Non-profit organization Project Jade confirmed his death through a Facebook post.
"Rest in power, Gold," the group wrote. "To many, Gold was a comic with crude humor. But to us, he's one of the few people who stood up against human rights violations and indoctrination. Hustisya para sa'yo, Gold. Salamat sa suporta mo sa Project Jade. Pahinga ka na."
Reports indicate that Dagal had been receiving death threats following his jokes about the religious group.
Aside from his comedy, Dagal was also known for his social commentaries, where he voiced concerns about human rights and abuses of authority.
Authorities have yet to provide further details regarding the investigation into his death.
