Quezon City Police District (QCPD) operatives recovered a stolen Mitsubishi Montero in Cebu City, acting director Police Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. reported Sunday.
Buslig said members of the QCPD Anti-Carnapping Unit, led by Police Lt. Col. Hector Ortencio, received information about the location of the stolen vehicle, with chassis number MMBGUKHS10RH007963 and engine number 4N15UKR3829.
The vehicle was among eight stolen during a carnapping incident at a Jetour Auto Car dealership in Las Piñas City on 17 September 2024.
After validating the report, Anti-Carnapping Unit operatives traveled to Cebu City on 27 February 2025, and confirmed the vehicle’s presence.
On 11 March 2025, they further verified that the Mitsubishi Montero in Cebu City matched the one reported stolen in Las Piñas City.
Following confirmation, a search warrant was obtained from Regional Trial Court Branch 17 in Cebu City. The warrant was executed on 14 March 2025, in coordination with Cebu City Police Station 9 and Barangay Guadalupe officials.
The operation resulted in the recovery of the stolen vehicle. However, the possessor, Kevin Danelle Ching Lu, a businessman, was not present when the vehicle was found inside the Rivan IT Building in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, on 14 March 2025, and remains at large.
Buslig said the court of origin will be informed of the successful implementation of the search warrant, and appropriate charges will be filed against the possessor if evidence warrants.
Buslig commended the Anti-Carnapping Unit operatives for their dedication.
“This operation demonstrates our strong commitment to combating vehicle theft and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice,” Buslig said.
