GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Over a hundred individuals from various parts of the Philippines gathered at City Plaza for an anti-Duterte peace caravan, led by SENTRO SOCCSKSARGEN. The event, organized by the Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO) SOCCSKSARGEN, aimed to raise awareness about accountability issues related to the Duterte administration's controversial drug war.
Ben Sumog-oy, convenor of SENTRO SOCCSKSARGEN, emphasized the group's concerns not only over the extrajudicial killings during Duterte's term but also over the protection of human rights for marginalized fisherfolk.
He criticized the new law allowing commercial fishing vessels to encroach into municipal waters, warning that this would severely impact local fishing communities' livelihoods.
The rally drew participants from across the country, including Zamboanga, Semirara in Antique, and Palawan. They gathered at Plaza Heneral Santos to demand justice for the victims of extrajudicial killings during Duterte's presidency, particularly highlighting the ongoing charges against him for crimes against humanity at The Hague.
The demonstration was a call for accountability, justice, and the protection of vulnerable communities affected by Duterte-era policies.
