Mattel has unveiled a captivating new doll inspired by the mythical manananggal, a Filipino creature known for its ability to separate into two halves.
The doll, named Corazon Marikit, offers a unique and immersive way to experience Filipino traditions and fashion.
Described by Mattel as a “feast of Filipino fashion and traditions,” Corazon Marikit is designed to replicate the eerie beauty of the manananggal. The doll features a top and bottom half that can be separated, allowing her to "fly into the night," as Mattel describes it.
Draped in shimmering foil prints and fringes, the doll’s stunning design is further enhanced by intricately embroidered bat wings, making her a striking figure that glides through a runway of jasmine.
Priced at $75 (PHP 4,303), Corazon Marikit comes with a two-part packaging that lets collectors display her in various poses. The stand allows the upper body to slide up and down while the lower body swings and rotates, adding dynamic movement to this fearsome and fantastical figure.
This release follows Mattel's 2024 launch of a Filipina Barbie, designed by Filipino-American artist Carlyle Nuera. The Barbie, a symbol of Filipino heritage, donned a traditional corset, terno sleeves, a malong-inspired skirt, and bakya with bahay kubo-sculpted heels. Her look was completed with a radiant crown symbolizing the Philippine sun, gold janggay jewelry, and intricate batok tattoos on her arms.
With these releases, Mattel continues to honor Filipino culture while blending it with its signature doll craftsmanship.
