President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Tuesday that the Philippine government received a copy of the arrest warrant against former President Rodrigo Duterte in the wee hours of the day.
"This came in — actually, it came in — I received it from, from Secretary [Jonvic] Remulla. I received it at 3 a.m. last night," he said during a late night presser in Malacañang.
Marcos recounted that he and Remulla discussed the document and proceeded after confirming the arrest warrant.
“And we -- I looked at it and we went back and forth, 6:30 [a.m.], he wrote me again and he said, ‘We have it already. We have the warrant of arrest from Interpol.’” The President said.
He added that he then gave orders to “put all plans into place” and move forward with the next steps.
On Tuesday evening, Duterte departed for The Hague, where he is set to face charges of crimes against humanity related to his bloody war on drugs.
