BAGUIO CITY — After being treated to lively activities of the recently concluded Abrenian Kawayan Festival, residents of Bangued, Abra were rocked by the news that someone threw a grenade early Monday morning followed by mild earth shakes hours later in another municipality.
At around 12:30 a.m., an unknown individual threw a fragmentation hand grenade in front of the Philippine National Bank in Magallanes Street, Barangay Zone 5, Bangued, Abra. The glass panel of the bank’s door was also shattered as someone allegedly threw stones at it.
The incident was only reported to the police at 1:30 a.m. Responding members of the Bangued Police found the unexploded hand grenade and a stone at the area.
At 1:50 a.m. of the same date, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake was felt at San Quintin, Abra. According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the center of the temblor of tectonic origin was located at 17.60°N, 120.50°E — 006 km N 19° W of the town and with the a depth of 00.1 km.
Around 9:20 a.m. of the same date, a 2.1 magnitude quake took place at Langiden, Municipality of Abra.
Phivolcs wrote that the center of the shake of tectonic origin was located at 17.63°N, 120.51°E — 009 km N 44° W of Langiden with a depth of 006 km.
