Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro assured the commuting public that the EDSA busway will continue its operations despite the rehabilitation of one of the country’s main thoroughfares.
In an interview on Thursday, Castro said the government is looking for ways to ensure that the EDSA rehabilitation won’t cause additional traffic for commuters using EDSA, particularly the riders of its bus carousel.
“The bus carousel will still continue. What we will do is to determine how it will not cause traffic, but [the operations] will continue, it will not stop for our commuters,” she said.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) earlier said that the rehabilitation of EDSA will begin by the end of March and will start at the dedicated lane for commuter buses.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said portions of the busway will be closed for repairs and will temporarily utilize the next lane.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan previously said that the Philippine government would undertake major infrastructure projects this year, including the complete rehabilitation of EDSA.
He noted that improving the riding quality on EDSA is one of the priority projects of the Marcos administration.
